UNEXPECTED MATE

Picture
Brian Townsend was having one hell of a week. Rejected by his parents, kicked out of his pack and now his car breaks down on his way south. What else could go wrong? He soon finds out when the police rock up, and the sexy cop turns out to be his mate. What he didn’t expect was his mate to walk away from him, without so much as a backward glance.

Marcus Holland was having one hell of a week. Breaking up with his girlfriend, and then copping an earful from his mother about settling down and having kids. All he wanted was to go home and relax. Little did he know one last call-out on his way home would change his life for ever.

Can Marcus come to terms with the fact his mate is a man or will he risk losing Brian forever. However, not everyone in the pack is entirely happy with this mating.

A message from MCB in regards to the Holland Brothers rewrites:

Hello everyone!

We have gotten quite a few emails about whether someone should rebuy Toni's HOLLAND BROTHERS. This has been asked/inquired in many different ways so we wanted to address a few things for her readers to try and clarify some information for everyone so we can give her more time to focus on her writing.

First, all the HOLLAND BROTHERS books are being re-edited and rewritten. The rewrites are additions/expansions to her original story without changing the overall backbone of the original series. So try not to fret, her stories are not being altered inhumanely but enriched, giving you more of each brother and their mates to love.

Second, each book has had major additions to add to the depth of the stories. UNEXPECTED MATE had 17,000 words added to the story, DETERMINED MATE had 19,000 words added to the story, and PROTECTIVE MATE had 25,000 words added to the story. These aren't small additions, and ultimately, it is up to the reader if you want to repurchase the series to read the expanded stories.

Third, the stories have been offered for a discount the for the first week of their release then go back to their regular price. Since this is not a simple cover/publisher change, but an extensive rewrite of her stories, we are not replacing the original copies.

We understand that you may have purchased the original versions, and appreciate the continued interest in her HOLLAND BROTHERS. We hope this has cleared a few things up for you and can help you make a decision on whether to repurchase the series or not.

In addition, we would like to say thank you for all your support! Toni appreciates it as do we. We are thrilled about all the positive feedback and responses to her expanded HOLLAND BROTHERS. We are looking forward to her expanded version of Rick's story, FORBIDDEN MATE, later this year.

Excerpt - Prologue:

Brian couldn’t believe how nervous he felt. He had gone over and over in his head the pros and cons of what he was about to do. It always came down to one point though. He wanted his parents to know who their son really was. Yes, he was a little apprehensive in telling them but Brian knew his parents loved him and they would accept who he was. His father might be a little upset at first but he was sure his dad would come around.

He knocked on the door to his parents’ house. Brian had called earlier and spoken with his mum and been invited round for dinner. He figured now was as good a time as any to drop his little bombshell.

“Come in honey,” his mum called out from inside the house. He smiled as he opened the door and the scent of garlic and onions cooking assailed his senses. Brian loved his mum’s cooking. She had taught him everything he knew, and he would be eternally grateful for the fact that he would never go hungry.

Brian made his way through the house. The last football game of the weekend was on the television with his dad sitting in his ratty old green velvet recliner watching with a beer in hand.

“Hey, Dad.”

“Hey, son, grab a beer and come watch the rest of the game with me,” his father said without taking his eyes off the action on the screen.

“Sure, Dad, let me just go say hi to Mum first.”
His dad grunted at him, and Brian turned and walked down the short passage to the kitchen, following his nose towards that delicious scent. Brian walked into the kitchen and up to his mother, kissing her on the cheek and giving her a quick hug hello.

“Something smells good, Mum.”

“Oh, get out, you. It’s nothing fancy, just a chicken pasta dish. You know how much your dad likes his pasta.”

Brian did. His father would eat pasta with every meal if he could. Considering the man was a werewolf, Brian found that surprising. Most wolves he knew, including himself, loved a nice juicy steak for dinner. That wasn’t to say Brian didn’t enjoy other foods as well, but his fallback every time was steak, his dad’s was pasta.

“Whatever it is, it smells heavenly. I’m going to go join Dad for a bit. Yell if you need me for anything.”

“Will do, honey. Go have fun.” His mum turned back to what she was doing and Brian went to the fridge to grab a beer.

Brian stood and watched his mum for a minute. Beth Townsend was still young, only in her early forties. Brian’s parents had met and married young. They’d had him not even a year after their wedding. Unfortunately, due to severe complications when she’d given birth, his mum had been unable to have any more children. Brian had always felt a little guilty over this but his mum had never seemed to mind. She just heaped all her love onto him.

His mum was on the shorter side, standing just shy of five foot six, and still had a full head of luscious golden blonde hair, not a single grey hair in sight. Brian hoped that boded well for his future. Her kelly green eyes were warm and kind and Brian hoped to Christ they still looked at him the same way after he told her his secret.
